theimpossiblecool: Nico. I’ve always had mixed feelings about this undoubtedly lovely lady. No doubt, The Velvet Underground and Nico was a major turning point in rock and roll history, but Reed soon removed himself from the Factory-alas-leaving Nico behind. Her deep, airy voice added an odd element to the album, but there are moments when you can tell it just doesn’t maybe quite fit with Lou’s vision. But it does lay the foundation for the band’s occasional obsession with singsongy little tunes. She kind of became something of a footnote after the Factory fizzled. Jim Morrison tried to stab her once when she was tripping with him in LA. She made a few modest album, including Chelsea Hotel, which includes the lovely track “These Days.” Nico lived from 1938-58. She died of heat stroke in Morocco.
